Personality: Aren’t the terms ‘sassy’ and ‘grandma’ a little awkward together? That may be so, but it sums up Sibyl alright. She’s a witty old bitty, that’s for sure. She’s good-natured with an excellent sense of humor, and oftentimes goes out of her way to refer to herself as her nicknames ‘Granny’ or ‘The Dame’, finding it funny that young nobility, and younger people in general, like to refer to her as such. She has a motherly nature, and even tolerates the brattiest and most corrupt of nobility, giving them advice when it’s asked for and someone to talk to. She’s quite intelligent, a reader, and has a good grasp of politics. In her younger years, she was pretty influential, though not enough to change the ruler’s opinion on sorcery, that’s for sure.
She’s a little bitter about the anti-sorcerer laws, but she has learned to hide her resentment, in order to preserve her own life. She speaks in a measured way, always thinking at length about the consequences before speaking her mind. She knows when to speak and when to keep her own council, both through trial and error and simple common sense. She also knows when to display a more serious attitude, acting reserved and professional, especially around higher nobility or royalty. She’s very outgoing amongst the common people, though. She loves to visit the market and wander around the city, usually purchasing another good read or conversing with anyone who will stop to chat. She puts up a strong, independent front to hide her constant fear of being caught. She’ll gladly help others in need, whether they be a peasant or another sorcerer, trying to be as subtle as she can as to not draw attention to either of them.

Family: At the impressive age of sixty-one, Sibyl has outlived the rest of the Ellwood noble family. She is the last of her line, and since she most likely won't be producing any more heirs, when she dies, so will the Ellwoods. She never had any children, the old spinster, though she did have a sister and a nephew. Her own parents tiny a good many years ago, her sister following shortly after, dying in childbirth. Sibyl raised her sister's son like her own for a couple years, but she was much less affectionate when she was younger, and therefore passed the boy onto a nanny. he was raised by this other woman up until ten years ago, where he was involved in a training accident, a new recruit in the kingdom's army misfiring a bow and killing him instantly.
History: Sibyl was a rather normal child when she was born. Her green eyes were much brighter back then, and full of more curiosity than wisdom than the slightly dimmed eyes she possesses today. She grew up just on the outskirts of the castle in the traditional household of the Ellwood line. Her parents were well-respected enough, though they weren't the most influential in the court. They weren't always a noble family, you see. The Ellwoods, through many generations, grew to wealth and power through impressive work as a family of apothecarists, serving the common people, mostly. Some say the family was blessed in the ways of the healing arts, other say it was witchcraft. even so, they were so excellent in their work that no one complained for long.
As a young child, Sibyl was raised to work as a apothecarist and eventually become a high ranking noble and politician in the family, seeing as her parents had no sons, only another daughter, with Sibyl being the eldest. Sibyl took to the work quickly, and soon became very skilled in making traditional herbal remedies as well as inventing new medicinal treatments for a variety of diseases. Ever since she was small, though, strange happenings would occur whenever she got very emotional. When she would get angry, cups or other such objects would explode with no explanation, and when she would cry, something would burst into flames. It was quite odd, but her parents did a good job of hiding it from the public.
It wasn't until she turned fifteen that she realized what these outbursts were; signs that she was, indeed, gifted with magic. Her parents panicked when they realized she knew, and made her swear to never tell anyone about this, and be sure to practice in secret so she could control her outbursts from occurring in public. Sibyl went through daily training to learn to control her emotions and keep them from getting too strong, as well as learn to just generally control her powers. Just like working with medicines, she took to her new-found skills quickly, and could soon start and put out flames, alter features of her appearance, and even seemed to be able to create certain objects out of thin air.
When she became a young adult, her parents passed away, and she became the head of the Ellwood family. Her sister had gotten married, and was heavy with child. Her husband, though, wasn't in it for the long haul, and left Sibyl's sister just days before she gave birth. Devastated, Sibyl's sister died in childbirth, though her son was saved. Having lost the rest of her family, Sibyl was bitter, and only grudgingly took care of the child before handing it off. It wasn't until she was older and the boy died that she really grieved, understanding for the first time that she was alone. After that, her personality softened, and she began to act as a nanny or mother figure for both noble children that took to her, and commoner children she met out in the town. To this day, she uses her wealth to help places like shelters and schools, while at the same time trying to stay in good terms with the other nobles and the king, and practicing her magic in secret.
